O'Neill Police Department Raising Funds For K-9 Unit
3/28/11
Monday morning on KBRX, O'Neill Police Chief Larry Wanamaker along with
Investigator Rachel Kohlman and Office John Wilson were in to talk about the
K-9 Unit that is going to be added to the O'Neill Police Force.
Listen to the interview by clicking here.
The O'Neill Police Department is establishing a K-9 Unit to assist Officers in
ongoing efforts to diminish criminal activity in O'Neill and the surrounding areas.
The K-9 Unit is a valuable asset to all area law enforcement officers who work
diligently to protect citizens in their communities. The addition of a K-9 Unit to
the O'Neill Police Department greatly enhances our agency's capability to track
down, locate and capture wanted offenders in rural environments, and detect
illegal narcotics in our communities and schools. The employment of a K-9
greatly reduces the safety risk to the citizens and Law Enforcement Officers of
the City of O'Neill, while increasing the agencies effectiveness in apprehending
criminals and preserving public safety.
The addition of a K-9 serves as a tool to locate suspects involved in serious
crimes, aid in their capture, and is instrumental in the detection of illegal
narcotics. A safe thorough search of buildings and other hazardous areas are
but a few duties effectively preformed. The K-9 Unit assists in these searches
and provides an added layer of protection for the law enforcement officers during
these dangerous situations.
The O'Neill Police Department needs your support to fund our K-9 Unit. We are
asking businesses, community organizations, and individuals to donate funds to
purchase equipment, provide the necessary training, and to obtain a Police
Service Dog. Equipment and supply donations are also welcome. Your donation
will be used explicitly for the K-9 Program and are tax deductible.
